BNS Prottoy Departs for Sri Lanka to Join IFR-2025

Bangladesh Navy Ship Prottoy departed Chattogram (20 November 2025) to participate in the International Fleet Review 2025, scheduled to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 27–30 November 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy.

As per naval tradition, the ship was formally seen off with ceremonial music performed by a well-decorated naval band. Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hasan, Commander Chattogram Naval Area, attended the departure ceremony as the Chief Guest. He addressed the officers and sailors joining the mission, offering guidance and wishing them success. Senior naval officers, along with families of the departing crew, were also present.

The International Fleet Review will bring together high-level representatives, observers, defence specialists, and naval ships from various countries. BN Ship Prottoy, commanded by Captain Towhidul Haque Bhuiyan, is carrying a team of 150 naval personnel, including 29 officers, to represent Bangladesh at the event.

Participation in this multinational fleet review is expected to strengthen diplomatic ties among participating nations. It will also foster cooperation in areas such as maritime security, anti-piracy efforts, counter-narcotics operations, prevention of trafficking and illegal fishing, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster response. Over the years, the Bangladesh Navy has actively taken part in similar international engagements, showcasing professionalism and strengthening the country’s image abroad.

This deployment further reinforces the Bangladesh Navy’s commitment to regional cooperation through regular joint exercises, training, and combined operations with friendly nations. The experience gained from this visit is expected to enhance the professional skills of participating naval personnel and deepen Bangladesh’s engagement in regional maritime security.

The ship is expected to return to Chattogram on 05 December 2025.
