Major General K M Shafiullah: Former Bangladesh Army Chief and Freedom Fighter Passes Away

Bangladesh Army Mourns the Loss of a National Hero

Dhaka, January 26, 2025:

Major General K M Shafiullah, Bir Uttam, PSC, former Chief of Bangladesh Army and valiant freedom fighter, passed away today at 8:45 AM at Dhaka’s CMH due to cardiac arrest.

Major General K M Shafiullah, Bir Uttam, was a distinguished freedom fighter and the 2nd Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh. Born on September 2, 1934, in Rupganj, Narayanganj, he was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in 1955. During the Liberation War of 1971, he served as the Sector 3 Commander and led the “S-Force” in critical battles such as Bilonia and Akhaura. Post-independence, he served as the Army Chief from April 1972 to August 1975.
